Event Info

Celebrating eight years of the Charlotte LUNG Forward 5K Run, Walk & Celebration, we will have both pre-race and post-race celebrations, including fun activities for everyone. You can look forward to music, exhibitors, dancing, kids’ activities and much more. All lung cancer survivors receive complimentary registration.

Time - 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Registration Pricing & Details


Adult - EARLY BIRD (Age 21 years old+. Pricing ENDS JULY 31) - $25.00

Adult - (Age 21 years old+.  August 1 – September 17) - $30.00

Adult - (Age 21 years old+.  Event day, September 18) - $35.00

All 5K participants will be timed. 1 Mile participants will not be timed.



Youth/Student - EARLY BIRD (Age 20 years old or younger. Pricing ENDS JULY 31)  - $15.00

Youth/Student - (Age 20 years old or younger. August 1 – September 17) - $20.00

Youth/Student - (Age 20 years old or younger. Event day, September 18) - $25.00

All 5K participants will be timed. 1 Mile participants will not be timed.



Lung Cancer Survivor - FREE

Veteran - (Thank you for your service!) - $20.00

Health Care Worker or First Responder - (Thank you for your service!)  - $20.00

Lounge for Lung Cancer - (Unable to attend on event day but want to support from afar? These registrants can fundraise and will be mailed a navy t-shirt within two weeks of the event.) - $25.00

All 5K participants will be timed. 1 Mile participants will not be timed.

Registration Deadlines: Mail-in Registration Deadline is Monday, September 13, 2021 and Online Registration closes Wednesday, September 15 at midnight. Registration will be available at our Advanced Packet Pickup and on Race Day.

Race Awards: There will be awards given for the following categories in both male and female as well as men’s and women’s best overall competitive timed participants: 9 & younger, 10-11, 12-14, 15-18, 19-20, 21-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+


Event Day Schedule

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. - Registration

9:15 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. - Survivors' Breakfast served

9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. - Expo, including Entertainment, Exhibits, Music, Games & Much More

10:00 a.m. - Victory Lap (less than 1 Mile) led by survivors and families - Speakers continue until 10:00 am including announcements & celebration as survivors return from walk and cross the finish line.

10:20 a.m. - Pre-Event Warm-Up

10:30 a.m. - 5K Walk/Run* (Line-up order: timed runners in front followed by runners, walkers, and walkers with strollers and pets.)

11:30 a.m. - Kids' Dash & Awards

12:00 Noon - Race awards ceremony for timed participants by age group

12:30 p.m. - Event wrap-up


Advanced Packet Pick-Up

For your convenience, there will be advanced packet pick-up scheduled.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 - from 12:00 Noon to 7:00PM at Omega Sports, Park Road Shopping Center, 4201 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC

Pick up your race packet early and save time on race day! You CAN pick up for your entire team. We will prepare your team bags in advance if you contact us by Thursday, September 16 at 5:00 p.m. Email: with the team name, person picking up the bags and phone number.



All pre-registrants are guaranteed an event T-Shirt . Pre-registered survivors will receive a survivor shirt. There will be a very limited quantity of shirts available for those who register on event day.

Rain Plan

The event will be held Rain or Shine. The exception would be weather that presents a hazard to participants and volunteers. A decision regarding cancellation will be made on event day and posted on this website's Home Page. No refunds would be issued.


Lung Cancer Initiative appreciates the severity of COVID-19. As we are dedicated to serving the needs of people with lung cancer and their loved ones, we are closely monitoring the latest developments related to the outbreak and responding accordingly. We will follow all guidelines from the CDC and local officials as it pertains to mass gatherings and social distancing. Event changes will be posted on the homepage of this website and sent to registered participants.
