Charlotte LUNGe Forward 5K Run, Walk & Celebration 2021

Team KK - Don't Stop Believing

Dear friends and family,

It has been just over two years since Kelly’s passing. We continue to miss her smile, her amazing spirit, her steadfast courage and her love of life... every day. Among other things, Kelly was a Christian, Mother, Sister, Wife and Friend.

One of Kelly’s passions was helping others. I can remember countless times where Kelly would tell me of an issue and ask “What are we going to do about it?” or in other instances, she would just tell me what she had already “done about it”. After her diagnosis of Stage IV lung cancer in December of 2015, she did not feel sorry for herself but rather tried to figure out how she could still help others and “do something about it”. One of the causes that she devoted her time and energy to over the next 3 ½ years was the NC Lung Cancer Initiative (NC-LCI). She was a huge supporter, one of the top fundraisers, and an active participant in the annual Lunge Forward event, and in 2018-2019 was the co-chair.

Last year’s Charlotte Lunge Forward event was to be held in her honor, but the pandemic put a damper on that. Sadly, two of Kelly’s closest friends in the organization have since lost their battle with lung cancer as well. None of these ladies let lung cancer define them. They battled an evil disease with the strength and grace of true believers.

The 2021 Lunge Forward event will be held this year on the morning of September 18, 2021, at Clanton Park (1520 Clanton Rd, Charlotte, NC). I hope you will join us to celebrate and remember Kelly’s spirit and life, to support this great organization she was so committed to, and carry on her mission to “do something about it.”

The North Carolina Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI) is the leading nonprofit in North Carolina that provides support to the lung cancer community by connecting patients, survivors, and loved ones with the medical and research community. Their mission is to advance survivorship and provide support to those affected by lung cancer through research, education, and access programs. Please join us for the walk to remember Kelly and others that continue to battle this disease. If you cannot participate in the walk, please consider donating to LCI ( If you are unable to participate either by walking or donating, please pray for a successful event that will help LCI provide support for those less fortunate than we were.

Thanks in advance!
